Malaysia’s property sector celebrated its brightest stars at The Edge Malaysia Top Property Developers Awards (TPDA) 2024, with Sime Darby Property Bhd reclaiming the top spot after a 15-year gap. The prestigious event, held at Kuala Lumpur’s Mandarin Oriental on November 11, recognized industry leaders for their contributions to sustainable urban development and innovation. Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming emphasized the importance of inclusive growth, urging developers to align with national housing goals while delivering quality living spaces.

Sime Darby Property’s victory highlighted its commitment to excellence, earning accolades for both overall performance and qualitative attributes. Group Managing Director Datuk Seri Azmir Merican credited the win to his team’s dedication, underscoring the company’s focus on long-term value creation. Close behind were joint runners-up Sunway Property and Gamuda Land, followed by other major players like S P Setia Bhd and UOA Development Bhd. KSL Holdings Bhd stood out in quantitative metrics, reflecting financial resilience in a competitive market.

The awards criteria balanced hard data with visionary leadership, assessing factors like profitability, innovation, and sustainability. Deloitte Malaysia audited the rankings, ensuring transparency in an industry where longevity matters. The Edge Media Group’s Datuk Ho Kay Tat likened the rankings to academic report cards, stressing that consistency—not just one-time success—defines true excellence. Minister Nga echoed this, advocating for public-private partnerships to address housing shortages and urban inequality under the Madani Economy Framework.

Beyond the main honors, TEPEA 2024 celebrated niche achievements, from green design (The Night Shelter, One Shell Square Miri) to adaptive reuse (The Zhongshan Building). Affordable housing projects like Residensi Aman Bukit Jalil were spotlighted, alongside international ventures such as Vietnam’s Celadon City. The gala also honored industry veterans, including Rehda leaders Datuk Jeffrey Ng and Tan Sri Eddy Chen, for shaping Malaysia’s real estate landscape. With solar partner GSPARX and Porsche Malaysia adding prestige, the event reinforced property development as a cornerstone of national progress.
