The state of Melaka is poised to become the epicenter of global tourism discourse as it prepares to host a triumvirate of landmark events commencing tomorrow. These include the official inauguration of the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the concurrent World Tourism Day 2025 celebrations, and the World Tourism Conference 2025. This strategic convergence of international and domestic tourism initiatives is designed to project Malaysia’s distinctive cultural and natural assets onto the world stage, reinforcing its position as a premier destination.

Under the thematic banners of “Malaysia Truly Asia” and “Surreal Experiences,” the VM2026 campaign is architected to offer immersive explorations of the nation’s profound cultural diversity and pristine ecological wonders. The event’s international stature will be underscored by the participation of over 150 delegates from the United Nations World Tourism Organisation. A meticulously curated program of ancillary activities, developed through a collaboration between the Melaka state government, the UNWTO, and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, promises to deliver a multifaceted cultural spectacle.

The festivities will feature a diverse array of attractions, including an International Kite Festival and traditional performances such as the zapin, involving more than 3,000 participants. Complementing these are the Melaka Konda Kondi Festival, reviving traditional games, and the Melaka Entrepreneurs’ Carnival 2025, which aims to facilitate business matching with an anticipated transaction volume of RM10 million. A significant historical dimension is added through the exclusive “The Historical Maritime Exhibition of a World Naval Hero: Enrique de Malacca,” showcasing archival documents that affirm the role of a Malaccan individual in the first circumnavigation of the globe.

The grand opening ceremony will be elevated by performances from esteemed artists Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza and Misha Omar, culminating in a sophisticated 1,000-drone light formation over Klebang. To ensure public accessibility and security, comprehensive logistical measures have been implemented, including the provision of complimentary shuttle bus services and the deployment of over 600 police personnel. This concerted effort is projected to significantly catalyze the local economy, with an ambitious target of attracting 16.5 million visitors and generating an estimated RM23.48 billion in tourism revenue for the year.
