Indonesia is taking significant steps to establish a comprehensive framework for intellectual property development, with plans to implement a binding national strategy by 2029. The initiative, spearheaded by the Law Ministry’s intellectual property directorate, aims to create a unified approach across government agencies to foster innovation and economic growth.

Key aspects of the roadmap include streamlining IP services for small businesses, academic institutions, and creative industries. According to Director General Razilu, these measures are designed to enhance the role of intellectual property in boosting Indonesia’s economy while making the system more accessible.

The government has already begun implementing reforms to simplify IP procedures, such as cutting trademark processing times to six months. These changes reflect ongoing efforts to create a more efficient and supportive environment for innovators and entrepreneurs nationwide.

Looking ahead, officials are working on a concept paper for the new regulation, expected to be finalized by 2025. Once completed, the roadmap will serve as a strategic guide to strengthen Indonesia’s IP ecosystem and encourage broader participation from various sectors.
