Malaysia’s digital infrastructure landscape is expanding with a major new data center development in Klang Valley. Sime Darby Property has signed a significant agreement with Pearl Computing Malaysia, a Google-affiliated company, to lease 77 acres in Elmina Business Park for a state-of-the-art data center facility. This deal marks another milestone in Malaysia’s growing tech sector, with construction expected to wrap up by December 2027.
The partnership represents a substantial financial commitment, with the 20-year lease potentially generating up to RM5.6 billion ($1.25 billion) in rental revenue. Two additional five-year extension options could further extend the collaboration. This follows an earlier agreement where Pearl Computing secured a 49-acre site in the same business park, scheduled for completion in 2026.
Google’s involvement in Malaysia’s digital transformation continues to deepen, with this project forming part of its $2 billion regional expansion. The tech giant first announced plans for a Malaysian cloud region in 2022, signaling its long-term commitment to Southeast Asia’s digital economy. The Elmina Business Park, located northwest of Kuala Lumpur, is rapidly becoming a key hub for tech infrastructure.
Sime Darby Property, originally part of a conglomerate dating back to 1910, has evolved into a major real estate player since its 2007 formation. The company clarified that it became independent from Sime Darby Berhad in 2017. With this latest data center venture, Sime Darby Property is positioning itself as a key enabler of Malaysia’s digital future.
