Well, that\u2019s exactly what\u2019s happening across Malaysia right now, as nearly 13 million people have tapped into the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) aid program, collectively spending a whopping RM1 billion on everyday essentials. It\u2019s not just about putting food on the table\u2014this initiative is making a real difference in the lives of B40 families, particularly those in rural and hard-to-reach areas.<\/p>\n\n<p>Take Sabah, for example, where over 98% of the 1.2 million eligible recipients have already used their SARA benefits. Even in Labuan, 65% of nearly 50,000 people have redeemed their RM100 allocation. And get this\u2014some folks were worried that using MyKad might be tricky for seniors or those in the countryside, but the numbers tell a different story. States like Perlis, Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Sabah, and Sarawak are actually leading the pack with some of the highest redemption rates nationwide.<\/p>\n\n<p>But the ripple effects don\u2019t stop there. Small businesses and local retailers are also reaping the rewards. Thanks to SARA, micro, small, and medium enterprises have seen a welcome boost in sales as more customers walk through their doors. In fact, the number of participating stores has jumped from 7,300 at the start of the year to more than 8,100 today. That\u2019s a clear sign that when people have a little extra to spend, everyone benefits.<\/p>\n\n<p>Looking ahead, the government has expanded SARA\u2019s reach significantly\u2014from 700,000 recipients to 5.4 million starting April 1. That\u2019s nearly eight times more households getting support for essentials like rice, eggs, cooking oil, medicine, and even school supplies. With almost nine million Malaysians eligible for Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) as well, it\u2019s clear these programs are helping families stay afloat while keeping local businesses busy.
