In a significant industry recognition, Sime Darby Property Bhd has once again claimed the premier position at The Edge Malaysia Top Property Developers Awards 2025, marking back-to-back victories for the established property developer. This latest achievement represents the company’s third overall win since first securing the honor in 2009, reinforcing its sustained market leadership. The award ceremony, a central component of The Edge Malaysia Property Excellence Awards 2025, was held at a distinguished gala event in Kuala Lumpur with Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming presiding as the guest of honor. The developer also distinguished itself by securing the top ranking in the Best in Qualitative Attributes sub-category.
The competitive landscape saw Gamuda Land and S P Setia Bhd sharing the joint second position, followed by UOA Development Bhd in third place. The complete roster of top ten developers included IJM Land Bhd, Eco World Development Group Bhd, IOI Properties Group Bhd, Matrix Concepts Holdings Bhd, Mah Sing Group Bhd, IGB Bhd, UEM Sunrise Bhd, and OSK Holdings Bhd. The evaluation framework for the awards employs a dual-metric system, assessing both qualitative aspects such as corporate expertise, innovation, and product quality, and quantitative metrics including financial performance and shareholder equity. S P Setia and UOA Development were jointly recognized for excellence in quantitative performance, with Deloitte Malaysia providing independent audit verification for all scoring and final rankings.
Industry leadership emphasized the sector’s resilience amid evolving market conditions and regulatory changes during the ceremony. The Edge Media Group CEO Datuk Ho Kay Tat highlighted the industry’s persistent capacity to create enduring communities despite facing global economic pressures and shifting domestic policies. He stressed that long-term viability and the ability to navigate market cycles ultimately build crucial trust with homebuyers and investors. Minister Nga commended developers for their role in national development, announcing that 1,289 previously stalled private housing projects valued at RM123.7 billion have been successfully revived, delivering homes to over 154,000 families.
Concurrently, the ministry is advancing legislative reforms to the Housing Development Act 1966 to strengthen consumer safeguards and developer accountability. The government continues to advocate for the build-then-sell approach while implementing technological advancements like the Housing Information Management System to promote construction efficiency and sustainability. Minister Nga further noted Kuala Lumpur’s improved standing in the international Smart Cities Index, rising to 65th position, and called for continued public-private collaboration to enhance both the livability and appeal of Malaysian urban environments.
The gala also celebrated excellence across eleven specialized categories, honoring projects and individuals for specific contributions to the real estate sector. Notable recognitions included The MET Corporate Towers for green excellence, Park Place @ ParkCity TownCenter for value creation, and developments like Desa ParkCity for master plan excellence. Individual honors were bestowed upon Datuk N K Tong for his industry contributions, SkyWorld Development Bhd’s Lee Chee Seng as Outstanding CEO, and LBS Bina Group’s Tan Sri Lim Hock San as Outstanding Property Entrepreneur. The awards spectrum also celebrated affordable housing projects in multiple states, conservation efforts in Kuching and Kuala Lumpur, and international achievement with Park Kiara @ ParkCity Hanoi winning the overseas project award.
